DIRK VAN DEN BERG

DIRK VAN DEN BERG

director & producer; CEO of OutreMer Film

DIRK is a director, writer and producer with broad international experience and a long track record of international productions. Specialized in difficult projects, remote territories and often called as a troubleshooter, Dirk's preferred areas of work are the Middle East, the Gulf region, Africa and the Maghreb.

His credits include feature films and television, documentaries, commercials and corporate films, alongside multiple theatre, opera and radio productions. He is appointed to several international film and cultural festivals.

Graduated a director at the Italian National Academy of Dramatic Arts with his mentor Andrea Camilleri, early on Dirk expanded his horizon to producing international film projects. Music plays an important role in his work, be it as a structuring element or an inspiration for finding the core of a story. Sharing with the next generation is important, and Dirk does so with workshops and seminaries, especially in countries that are in the rebuilding process of their cultural identities after a conflict.

His new film "THE SIEGE OF MECCA” aka “MEKKA 1979 - URKNALL DES TERRORS?" is the first comprehensive investigation of the hijacking of the Grand Mosque in Mecca. Produced jointly between Dirk’s OutreMer Film GmbH and Pascal Verroust’s K2 Productions, Paris, the film was supported by ARTE France, NDR, WDR, HR, RBB, ORF, FFHSH Hamburg and INA France; PBS International does world sales.

Alongside THE SIEGE OF MECCA, Dirk has produced and directed THE FLOATING WORLD OF KASHMIR (2012), SORRY IT'S A GIRL (2011), JAMMING ADDIS (2014), the GUZO TRILOGY (2015-2017) and other media creations.
